MEMORIAL DAY - LABOR DAY

We want to make Jesus famous across the street and around the world! We have projects and partnerships throughout this summer of 2019 to advance the Kingdom of God and impact our city. It all starts Memorial Day Weekend and wraps up the weekend of Labor Day. Save these two Serve Days on your calendar: June 15 & July 20.

It’s easy to get involved:

  2. Sign up for the teams you'd like to join for the June 15 & July 20 Serve Days. (If more than one member of your family is serving, please sign each up individually!)

  3. Check out the partnership drives we have for each month & the item lists to contribute. Bring your items to the Summer of Serve kiosk in the GraceLife lobby!

JUNE 15 SERVE DAY: PROJECTS

On our June 15th Serve Day, we’ll rally in the GraceLife parking lot at 9:00 am to pray, gather up into project teams, and go out from there.


Project: Providence Home - Men’s Event

This year GraceLife is partnering with Providence Home for a men’s cookout and fellowship event! Providence Home’s mission is to help stabilize the living conditions of dislocated men and to encourage progress in realizing their full personal potential in self-sufficient living through Jesus.

Project: Law Enforcement & Firefighter Appreciation

Our local First Responders (Police/Fire) work tirelessly to serve and protect our community. We will provide food and baked goods as a way to express our gratitude for their service. This team will bring baked goods for this project and go together to deliver these to a local precinct.

Meeting location: GraceLife Church

Project: Prayerwalk the City

What if we moved out into the very places we wanted to see God at work to welcome His presence and ask Him to show us what He wants to do? Join this team to prayer walk neighborhoods and outreach sites near the GraceLife building to pray in groups, seeking God to change lives. We can even go to YOUR street if you want us to! (Includes brief orientation and debriefing.)

Bring: Walking shoes, sun protection

Project: Transitions Homeless Shelter - Service Day

Transitions Homeless Center provides various services and a place to stay for approximately 260 residents transitioning from the streets to permanent housing. During Summer of Serve, we will assist Transitions by sorting their clothing closet, painting, cleaning and any other needed tasks.

Project: Family Shelter - Family Fun Day

GraceLife is continuing our partnership with the Family Shelter to provide a day of fun for the residents! This shelter allows families to stay together while they are temporarily displaced. We will provide lunch and a day of fun activities.

Project: Cooperative Ministry - Donation Sorting

Cooperative Ministry works to increase the economic self-sufficiency of people experiencing poverty in the Midlands through crisis assistance and sustainability programs. GraceLife will be spending the morning serving them by sorting through donations as well as doing some clean up.

The Creative Team at GraceLife exists to make Jesus famous through capturing photo, video, and sharing stories about what God is doing! If you'd like more information, sign up for both this team and the projects you'd like to be a part of! Note if you'd like to be a part of the photography team (you will need to provide your own DSLR) or assist in video & story capture.

Project: Daybreak Pregnancy Center - Floor Replacement

GraceLife is continuing our partnership with DayBreak Crisis Pregnancy Center. Daybreak Ministries offers compassionate services to women, men, and families in our community through free pregnancy & parenting resources, referrals, and support groups. We will spend the day ripping out old carpet, moving furniture, and installing new carpet. (This project involves lifting and physical labor.)

Project: Epworth Children’s Home - Childcare for Event

GraceLife will be partnering with Epworth Children’s Home this summer. Epworth Children’s Home provides a caring, accepting, and safe Christian community where children from broken families can grow, learn, and be loved. GraceLife will be providing childcare for a foster training event. We'll play games and do a craft with the kids. This project will meet at Epworth Children’s Home at 8:45am on July 20th and end at noon.

Project: Bookman Road Elementary - Nature Garden

We love supporting our local schools! This year, we will send a team to Bookman Road Elementary School. We will be weeding and mulching their beautiful outdoor shade garden. Children are welcome.

ONGOING SUMMER PROJECTS

Check out the on-going summer projects below for dates & times, as well as the supply lists for our summer drive partnerships.


Project: Richland School District Two, Summer Food Program - Adopt-a-Neighborhood

GraceLife Church is partnering again with Richland Two School District's Summer Feeding Program to adopt a local neighborhood. This program provides meals to children in low income areas throughout the summer months, when the students are not in school. Our GraceLife team will pass out food and provide games & activities for children in a local neighborhood. (This is an ongoing project all summer.)

Dates & Times: Monday-Thursday, 11:00AM - 1:45PM. Dates: June 17-20, 24-27, (off week of July 4), July 8-11, 15-18, 22-25, and July 29-August 1. 

Location: Meet at the GraceLife Building, carpool to Polo Estates Mobile Home Park, 8565 Old Perceval Rd, Columbia, SC 29223

Bring: games, crafts or sporting supplies you would like to share

Family Friendly: Yes, and there is no age limit; however, Gracelife will not provide childcare for participants. Please make sure you can watch your own children or that they can participate with activities of elementary and middle-school age children. Thanks!

Project: Richland School District Two - Stuff-a-Truck for School Supplies

GraceLife is continuing to partner with Richland Two for their annual Stuff-a-Truck initiative. This event engages with the community to provide school supplies for students in need. Teams will meet on location at the Two Notch Road Walmart, greet and engage with Wal-Mart customers, and provide school supplies lists for donations.

Dates & Times: August 3 & 4, two-hour shifts. August 3: 9:00-5:00 (9:00-11:00, 11:00-1:00, 1:00-3:00, 3:00-5:00). August 4: 1:00-5:00 (1:00-3:00, 3:00-5:00)

JUNE Drive: Bookman Road Elementary - Teacher School Supplies

We will continue to partner with Richland School District Two to support the teachers of Bookman Elementary. We will be collecting pens, markers, sticky notes etc. throughout the month of June. Bring donations to the Summer of Serve kiosk in the GraceLife lobby.

Items needed: face tissues, hand sanitizer, cleaning wipes, Ticonderoga pencils, Crayola 24-count crayons, washable markers, Sharpies, Papermate Flair pens, Expo markers, sticky notes, card stock (8 1/2 x 11), index cards, glue sticks (.77 oz)

JUNE Drive: Unaccompanied Youth - Bookbag Collection

GraceLife will be collecting book bags filled with school supplies for the unaccompanied youth in Richland School District Two (R2). Unaccompanied Youth are students that are not in the custody of a parent or guardian. Many of these minors are couch surfing and staying with friends on a consistent basis. Bring backpacks to the Summer of Serve kiosk in the GraceLife lobby all through the month of June.

Items Needed: Large Good Quality Bookbag filled with school supplies, for example: 3 inch binders, College ruled notebook paper, pens, pencils, highlighter, graph paper, scientific calculators (preferably TI-30Xa), colored pencils, glue sticks, headphones, USB drives, notecards

JULY Drive: Harvest Hope Food Bank - Bookbag Collection

GraceLife is partnering with Harvest Hope Food Bank to provide food for families in need. GraceLife will be collecting canned foods for donations through the month of July to provide Harvest Hope with what they need in order to serve these families in our community.

JULY Drive: Epworth Children’s Home - Journey Bags

Displaced children often come into foster care with nothing but the clothes on their backs. Journey Bags are backpacks filled with personal items like clothing, stuffed animals, and personal care items to use when they are abruptly taken out of their homes. Items can be dropped of in new or like-new condition at the Summer of Serve kiosk in the GraceLife lobby all through the month of July.

Items Needed, New or Like New: Book bag or duffel bag, filled with: toiletry items (ethnic hair products are very much needed), toothbrush, toothpaste, body wash, comfort item (teddy bear or some kind of stuffed animal), journal, pens, crayons, etc. non perishable snack (crackers, cookies etc.) coloring book for younger children, fleece blanket, night light

AUGUST Drive: DayBreak Pregnancy Center - Baby Bottle Campaign/Donations

GraceLife will be participating again this year in DayBreak Pregnancy Center’s Baby Bottle Campaign. Drop by the Summer of Serve kiosk in the GraceLife lobby the first Sunday in August to pick up a bottle, and collect change through the Labor Day Weekend (checks can be made out to Daybreak). Besides loose change, we will also collect items for babies (car seats, strollers, diapers, wipes, etc.). Drop off item donations to the Summer of Serve kiosk in the lobby.

Baby Items Needed: car seats, strollers, diapers, baby clothing, wipes. Most needed items: diapers in sizes 4, 5, and 6, Gerber Goodstart Gentle canned/powdered formula
